The Addiction Science group covers a wide range of the addiction-related problems in adults as well as in adolescents, in terms of prevention and clinical treatment, with applications such as epidemiology, outcome research, and psychosocial, cognitive and pharmacological interventions. Far from being disconnected from societal expectations, we strive to collaborate with public health stakeholders: on one hand, most of us are practicing clinicians in regular contact with patients, their entourage, and support groups, and on the other hand, we are involved in long-term collaboration with the main scientific and government organizations involved in addiction issues. Our research strategy in the domain of prevention integrates a societal approach aiming at fostering both decisions on health policies, and the set of strategies for prevention. We focus on vulnerability determinants, in order to target populations at risk. Our prevention strategies aim both at excessive behaviors and the risk and harm reduction. The therapeutic strategies we investigate aim at increasing precision, in order to adapt to subject’s characteristics (i.e. motivation for change, withdrawal syndrome…) and preferences (i.e. reduction or cessation, risk-harm reduction, relapse prevention, weight gain prevention in smokers, social rehabilitation…). We strongly believe that treatment can be significantly improved by widening our objectives, with the consideration of previously neglected targets.
